Based on the combined info at:

I would surmise that ROM was changed at the time the graphics cards were
changed: ATI 3D Rage II+ until May 1,1998 (Rev A), Rage Pro until August
12,1998 (Rev B), Rage Pro Turbo after that date (Rev C). Xlr8's site
indicates there is a correlation between the first two cards and a
difference in ROM...I'm deducing on the third card/ ROM configuration
based on this information.
Therefore the speed of thw G3 processor would not be a factor in
determining the ROM version.
