Incredibly, many WD drives are just IBM-designed drives which were made in a
WD plant, FLASHed with WD firmware (in order no to violate certain IBM trade
secret features) and "branded" WD. IBM actually sold the manufacuring tooling
to WD for these drives, so even the symbols on the mechanical parts are the
same.

However, IBM's 60GXP series is unique to it and WD doesn't make that series.

Maxtor's DiamondMax Plus is a very good drive.

Right now, WD has the largest capacity, if one is willing to tolerate 5400
rpm and a poorer reliability record.

IBM's 75 GB is the older 75GXP series, while the 60GXP series is actually the
newer product. Currently a 60 GB max capacity for the 60GXP.

My personal opinion ... and I am a Maxtor shareholder ... is IBM's 60GXP is
currently the best drive on the market ... and it's the quietest, too.

I have two 60 GB IBM 60GXPs in my G3/300 MT, and several Maxtors in other
machines.

Usual disclaimers, etcetera.
