finger nail polish remover, the kind with acetone may well be a good way
to re-soften rollers, and it may be a good alternative for people who
can't locate the specialty chemicals designed for the job.  adding a
little less volatile hydrocarbon might make the results last longer, say
some cooking oil or lard.  you'd have to wipe off the excess after
letting it soak in of course, but the idea is to add a "solvent" to the
rubber to soften it and make it more grippy.  again, if you're in the us
or canada try mcm.com who caries a couple different rubber rejuvenators.
 i wish i could suggest a good european source but i'm just not familiar
with that market, being as i don't live there.
