Thanks for the responses. This particular Stylewriter came right 
after removing the two bands, winding two layers of electrician's 
insulation tape onto the shaft (carefully trimmed to fit within the 
shaft shoulders) and replacing the bands. The extra thickness and the 
light emery-boarding seemed to do the trick.

Note also that when reassembling the 1200, make sure the gear train 
is correctly aligned. I had one tooth a smidgen to the left, the 
other a fraction to the right = one tooth out, enough for the top cam 
to get juuuuust past the top of it's lobe, twisting the feed shaft 
about 30 degrees, even though one tooth only equals about 5 degrees. 
Instant paper jam!  I nearly went demented until I figured it out.
