I'm guessing that it is the keyboard menu. If you have more than one
keyboard selected in the keyboard control panel, the appropriate (or
inappropriate, as the case may be) flag will show up. If you only have one
selected, it won't show up. Alternately, you could select the US keyboard
(is there a difference? Probably a Euro symbol, but that should be in the US
keyboard as well).
