I have a 7300 with G3/350 MHz and a Cube at G4/450. I connect through DSL. Both
computers are having around 300 MB of RAM and they both are running 9.1.

So far, the apparent advantages with OS X (stability, protected memory, X-only
programs) aren't that apparent for me and my computer behaviour. 9.1 is more stable
than any of the earlier versions, I'm very seldom doing simultaneous work with
different programs that all just _have_ to be absolutely stable over an extended
period of time (that's why I have the 7300 as a dedicated CD recording and scanning
station). And I don't miss very many X-only programs.

What I like about 9.1...

- Speed. It's fast enough to be able to be run without any hitch on a somewhat slower
computer (the 7300).

- Simplicity. I run 9.1 on both computers for the sake of ease in the interaction. And
I find MOSX complicated enough to not wanting to learn it before I have to. And
learning also takes time, which I like to spend on things I like to do. Being forced,
for the time being, of having two different OS versions on the disc doesn't simplify
things either.

- Economy. New OS versions aren't free.

- Look. I like an OS with a distinctive look and feel, and with an interface that is
neither flashy nor space-demanding. So far, I find the Aqua look a real no-no in terms
of usability and recognition. The added importance given to colour and heavy graphics
and the less importance given to clarity and contrast aren't well suited to a GUI
(IMHO). The reason I chose a Cube was its silence, not it's look. And I'm very happy
with my mail program (Mailsmith), which doesn't use graphics at all.

- Compatibility. I hear things about the Classic environment still not being as
stable/compatible as my own 9.1. When all my prime programs have been X-ified I will
probably give upgrading a more close look.

That's my own opinion. But I think they are important enough not to consider upgrading
for years to come.
