At this point, if I weren't already using OS X, I'd wait until August
and start with 10.2. That's the approach I took, last summer, with
10.1 -- starting with a fresh install on a major revision makes more
sense than a short-lived install of an old version followed by a
(potentially) problematic upgrade.

But, as for that 'OS X is still too new' argument... let's see:

        - the UNIX core dates from the 1960s
        - the Finder, file system, Carbon API and other Mac-heritage parts
date to 1983/84
        - the NeXTStep object frameworks, etc, date to the late 1980s
        - OpenGL dates to the mid 1990s
        - Apple has been working on what is now called OS X for 5 years
        - OS X server has been out for several years
        - the workstation version will have been out for a year and a half
when 10.2 is released.

No matter what it may sound like in these forums, you really don't need
to repair OS X very often. One of the first things I noticed after
installing 10.1 -- how simple everything is. It almost feels like
something is missing: "Shouldn't I be tinkering with something?" But, I
don't really need to and I love using it.
