FWIW, I just switched to X last week -- and already love the ability to stay in the GUI for 99% of the time, and still have to option to slip into the terminal window to use my (admittedly elementary) UNIX skills when the need arises.
Here's my example from Monday: OSX requires that fonts be in the ~/User/Library/Fonts/ folder, or the /Library/Fonts/ folder. But...they can't be in a sub folder (which is totally stupid, since I have 500+ fonts, but I digress). I have all my fonts organized in "A Fonts," "B Fonts," etc., and separated into "American Typwriter" folder, "Ammonite" folder...you get the drift. So, in order for me to get all the fonts into the root "Font" directory, I'd have hours of opening folders and moving files. But...in the shell? mv -f ~/User/Fonts/*/* ~/User/Fonts/ Done. That kicks major butt. :-) Now if they'd just speed up the damn OS, I'd be the proverbial pig in poop.
