Yeah, me too. I remember reading somewhere that X, as a Unix-derivative, 
is not an OS that "llikes" to shut down and start up every day. Most 
Unices, and Linux, like to stay up all the time. You'll really notice 
that most of your well-worn apps will spring to life upon invocation 
from the Dock (or LaunchBar, as is the case on my X box) quite rapidly 
if you simply put it to sleep rather than shut it down. Good luck.
