I have 10.1, just had to find the disc. Also, I get 10.2 from my school for
free.

Finally got this machine to work. Verbose mode on the 10.1 CD gave me the
hint I needed to track down the problem. I was getting a media error on the
load of mach_init, which meant that A) CD was bad, B) CDROM was bad, or C)
cable was bad. Since the cable was the only thing I could replace, I swapped
that out and it works fine now.

This is a good time to point out my error to some non-tech inclined people
that may fall into this problem some day. Long IDE cables need to be 80
conductor. From now on, the only cables I'm going to buy are 80 conductor. I
was using a 40 conductor cable because it was the only 3' cable I had.
Should've worked, because that CDROM won't report higher than UDMA2
(33MB/sec).

Darn Apple for putting the IDE connector on the _bottom_ of the motherboad!
:-)
