Hi Terry, It should boot fine from almost any CD-ROM. It takes what it needs from the apple ROM on the G3 motherboard. As Apple has moved farther away from hardware ROM with each new Mac and each new OS there seems to have more boot problems than with old hardware and software. Have you tried zapping the PRAM? The problems you describe sound like #1 RAM problems and #2 a bad hard drive.
