Hey there! Hopefully this isn't rehashing too much recent debate - In your own experience with running OS 9, and X.2 Jag, could we debate (or cite useful comparison weblinks) what would be the *sweet spot* of what a Mac needs in: - speed, - RAM, - screen res and - anything else YOU consider acceptable for updating to Os X *without* unduly slowing down the speed and ease at which we like to use our Mac.
I'd also welcome debate about essential or desirable utilities, or settings within Jag1.2 you'd change to have a Mac at least as useful in everyday use as when it runs OS 9. Me? Running G3 B&W @450MHz, Rev 2 (slightly faster) Rage 128 card, 192Mb RAM and usually running 2 apps concurrently, Netscape Communicator and Explorer or iCab when online. Running a newer ATA100 40G HD off the ATA 33 controller. That's it. What spec Mac would let its user do these Web things as well as on OS 9? Is the browser drawing or redraw speed still much slower on X browsers? Let the debate begin! Ben in Sydney -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
