I use Jaz disks, both 1 and 2 GB, with no problem. Zips work fine, as well. I've never locked a disk -- or used any of the other proprietary IOMega stuff -- so I have no idea if such things work. I also never install any of their software, not on Mac OS, OS X, OS/2 or Windows. It causes lots of problems and accomplishes nothing I need. Zip, Jaz and Superdisk devices have built in support in every OS that's been updated in the last 3-5 years, special drivers aren't required.
As for why someone would use media that are so expensive, there are a few good reasons: 1) They *are* expensive and we've had them for years. We'd like to get some return on investment. 2) Service bureaus and printers expect and prefer them. 3) If I take work home, I can have the exact same working media in both places. Additionally, even the smallest Jaz disks hold more data than a CD. I can have all my current projects together, with the standard artwork, such as logos, etc. 4) Again, we already have this stuff and are accustomed to this workflow. Why change until something *really* breaks?
