I confirm hardware failure by running Disk First Aid, then TechTool Pro 3, then DiskWarrior. Then I rebuild the Desktop using TT 3. Then I zap the PRAM using the same application. Then I trash Finder prefs, General Controls prefs, Apple Menu prefs, Appswitcher prefs, Mac OS prefs, System prefs, and any other prefs that may seem to contribute to the problem. If these measures still don't cure the ill, I do a clean install using Clean Install Assistant, which will save your other preferences. You'll then need to reenter some serial numbers and upgrade your QuickTime. A pain, I know, but better than the days when you had to reconfigure _all_ your preferences. If that doesn't work, it's a hardware problem. You've then gone through a lot of time, but you've at least ended up with a system that's a hell of a lot faster and more stable than before, and it was about time to do a clean install anyway, yes? ;) Seriously: this will fix a lot of problems, leave you with an optimized and more stable system, and will confirm if it is a hardware problem. Of course, I'm assuming that you're in 9.1-9.2.2. _/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/ Best, Greg Burkman [EMAIL PROTECTED] ICQ 62393161 Support open source and beat the Redmond Devil.
