Thanks for your input on my firewire problem, and I will try Diskwarrior.   
So from the replies, it sounds like the B&W firewires port are known to be 
unreliable.  Even though I am the only owner, I have not encountered any 
problems (knock on wood).  And I will look into another PCI firewire card 
until then....a Quick question:  will it harm or cause a firewire drive 
attached to it to fail?? is it ok to use it until I get a card???   And is it 
normal when's there's a crash for this to happen to a firewire drive to 
become unrecognizable? (since this happened on a iMacDV)?
