I've just gone through 3 weeks of trying to get Apple to admit that there is a problem with the Rev. 1 IDE controller chips. No go, they just said that it works with the drives that originally came with the machines, which means up to 12G. Now off the record, I was told that the big problem was when trying to do a master/slave thing, NOT upgrading to a larger drive. I've got a Rev. 1 box, I'm going to try a WD 80G drive in it, if it doesn't work well, I'll stick the drive in a FW case rather than buy a controller card. That way the drive is portable, and I don't loose anything when selling to old machine (I'll keep the 80G).
RonS p.s. Out of curiosity, there used to be an IDE card made by VST that sold for around $50 at OWC, but they no longer carry it. Anyone know what happened, and where to get a cheap card if I did want to go that route? > The Rev. 1 Motherboard has problems with the IDE controller, so any HD > except the one that came with it will cause the problems you're having. > You MUST get an ATA card to use a bigger HD, so look for a cheaper > ATA/33 or ATA/66. -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
