I don't know about cheap boards but I put the Sonnet Tempo board in my 
rev. 1 G3 and now have 2 -40 GB IBM drives from that card OK. Had to 
get the Adaptec FireWire card to replace the dead FireWire of a rev 1 
machine. Now everything is rock sold on OS 10.1.2.3.
