One of the problems you're running into is OS 9's Disc burner utility. It
should (assuming everything was installed correctly) give you the option to
allow Toast to handle the blank disk. In any case, if you're in the Toast
application when you insert the blank disk you should not get the dialog
asking you to prepare the disk for burning.

With that in mind, unless you tell OS 9 to burn the CD when you drag it to
the trash, those aren't coasters. They should be blank still.
