I am not surprised you got bum hardware from OWC. OWC is a clip joint, pure
and simple. I just got finished tangling with those clowns. The first time I
bought from them, they sold me a 128MB stick of 100MHz RAM which turned out
to be a 64MB. It was not a high-density stick...it was single-sided. I got an
RMA from them, sent it back, and they sent me back email saying "the DIMM is
fine." OK, fool me once, shame on you. They did refund me the money after I
threatened to go to VISA about it.

Next, I bought a DVD-ROM from them (Matsushta Kotobuki) and realized it was
not the DVD-ROM/CD-RW Combo drive I thought it was when I ordered it.
Immediately I sent an email back...the realization came about an hour after I
ordered it. The next day, my husband called them and confirmed that, yes, the
order had not been processed and that it was pulled from the queue before
submission to VISA.

However, three days later, my card was charged for the drive and the drive was
sent. I only found out about this when the drive arrived at my house. Fool me
twice, shame on me. (I was stupid for not reading the description of the
drive more than cursorily but that's beside the point.) Basically they got
the order, then the cancellation request, but then decided to charge and ship
and see if the shipment "stuck." This is an old boiler room trick.

I was able to get an RMA number again, and ship it back to OWC. However, they
only refunded me the money on the actual item sans shipping. By rights, the
jerks should have refunded me shipping charges plus what it cost me to send
the item back via UPS Ground. But they didn't. I have a claim in to VISA
because initially I thought that perhaps they had charged me a restocking fee
on the drive. However, yeah, they basically refunded me purchase price only.

Still, I don't EVER want to deal with those mofos again. Not ever. It's a
shame...there aren't many companies left that deal with used/refurbed/working
pull/surplus Mac goodies. There are tons that are out there selling PC
hardware like that, but OWC is one of the only places to go. That and MacResQ
and Small Dog. Too bad OWC doesn't seem to have ethics. Never again.
