Damon, You will need to boot from the OS CD, and then partition the HD using the "Drive Setup" application on the OS CD. My understanding is that, to make sure that the first partition on the drive is less than 8 GB you might want to make it 7.+ since anything 8 or greater will not accept OS X. For OS 9.x or below, the 8 GB isn't a problem, I believe. Since you, I believe, indicate the computer doesn't have an Apple CD ROM drive, it will be important that the CD ROM drive you have is bootable. If that is a problem someone else on the board may be of more help than I. If it is a problem, you could always get or borrow an older Apple external CD ROM drive for the installation. Hopefully this is helpful and not more confusing. The whole proccess is usually very easy and straight forward on a Mac, if all the hardware is working well.
