RE: Hi, and welcome to macs, the long answer is no, PC's and Mac's are very differnt in some ways, apple operateing system supports only a few hardware Items, that are generally known to function together,as compared with PC'S where the software contains vast quanities of drivers for most hardware items on the market that often conflict with each other,so the plus these machines actually work better, the down side is parts are fewer and cost more.as for starting from cd bootup while holding down "C" key, next memory is usually easy, but you need to know what goes with your machine,it varies with different models, next internet browsing, has been a pain, browsers with full featues have been made by other companies and I have tried and hated them all for corrupting my entire Operateing system for years, with that said Im presantly useing a new mac with OS9.2.2 and jaguar OSX10.2.3,Ive never had machine work this well before PC or MAC either.I use IE for features and Safari for reliability when just surfing, safari is actualy made for mac and I love it so far.their is a learning curve from PC to mac, once you get used to it youll wonder why you waited so long. hope ths helps a little, best wishes
