I thought the problem was the video card so I removed it and put in a 6 Meg video ram. It still will not boot the Jaguar CD.
The other one is a $77D.40F2 ROM (rev C??) runs Jaguar just fine. Is it the ROM or something else? Ted --- end of quote --- I've been running X comfortably on my Beige MT for quite a while, starting with 10.1.3 and now 10.2.4. I have all kinds of hardware hung on the machine including a video board, ata controller, usb/firewire combo board, G4 zif etc. I have a scsi chain that includes 4 or 5 pieces of hardware. I've never had to pull anything off the machine to get X to load or install. It wasn't easy to get it all up and running correctly at first but now it is as smooth as can be and I switch frequently booting between 9.2 and X. I have a rev C rom, though, and probably didn't have X when it was rev A. So I can't speak to that issue. The key for me was suggested on this list, a little utility called System Disk 2.6.2. Before I had this little tool, I could run X but couldn't get back to it after booting into 9. System Disk tells the machine where to boot from, which the Boot Disk control panel is unable to do for X, even the version of Boot Disk that comes on X installer. If you are having trouble getting up and running, or rebooting into X after running 9, try System Disk 2.6.2. If necessary, use it to point to your install CD. Might work. Once installed, you will find the tool invaluable if you have to get back to X from 9. By the way, as pointed out on the list before (and I'm grateful) if you leave the machine set to boot into X, you can boot into 9 by holding the option key when you start or reboot. The next time you restart, you're back in X. Hope this helps. Rich -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
