The 333 G3 which was removed from my Beige G3 is now working fine at 350 in a "six slot edition" 9600 ZIF carrier. --- end of quote --- Certain programs require G4, especially video like iDVD and the latest iMovies, I think. The price difference between the G3 and G4 is now minimal. I have a n OWC 466 mhz which was easy to install and trouble free. The Altivec business isn't always documented with the upgrade. You need seperate programs in 9 and X to get it running, but after that, it's transparent and trouble free. Powerlogix offers both. The power supply module business in Beige models applies to a very small number of machines. It pays to check yours according to the web page at OWC, but odds are you're ok to upgrade. I didn't have to upgrade any firmware in my Beige MT to run the G4, as far as I can remember. I think that applies to the B&W models. After changing the jumpers, which requires tweezers, care and good eyesight, the thing ran almost 3 times faster than original (133mhz) and can open anything any current Mac can run. Best $200 bucks I ever spent. Rich -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
