I have a beige G3 DT I plan to upgrade, can somebody tell me why are Zif 500
mhz G4 upgrades so popular in contrast to 400 mhz G4 Zif processors.

I have an XLR8 G4 ZIF in my Rev1 Beige G3 tower set at 350 and running 9.2 and it is really solid. I think it is more solid that the G3 that came with it. I am not sure about the difference between this and the OWC version since I got it from OWC and they sort of indicated it was an OWC upgrade when I got it.
My feeling, having done some video and other stuff with the Beige G4/ne G3; is that even with a new drive with an 8 meg buffer, the machine itself is not fast enough to warrant throwing much money at it. (upgrade RAM, drive, put in CDRW, ethernet nic, etc--how much money have you got in it? How much more for a brand new G4).
I also have one of those video personality cards and that card never has worked up to its full claimed potential (which was not high by today's standards). I get better results from a formac card--but the beige
As the LEM article a couple of weeks ago pointed out, the B&W G3 has a number of throughput improvements. Then you have to ask: " how much money to put in an ATA133 card to take the 180G drives?"
It's all about money---if you have to upgrade the computer a lot--its probably cheaper to buy a better model.
