I've bought three beige G3's on eBay in the last three weeks; paid $142 for a 300/av/mt in nice shape, then $115 for another mt/300 not quite as nice, then $85 for a 266dt in fair shape. These prices include shipping. Nicer machines will bring better prices, of course...
BUT the fact is that the G3 came out SIX years ago. Can you imagine trying to run XP on a six-year-old, cutting-edge 233 Pentium II? People don't even want to try. But some people want to run OSX on a (admittedly faster) 233 Beige G3 and they alIso want to run it on old 8600s, 9600s and even 7300s.
I've installed 10.2.6 on all three of my beige G3's and my 466se ibook, and they work well for my purposes (admittedly, I'm not a graphic artist...)
And as to the beige 233 being faster than the PII 233...well, depends...the PII runs Internet Explorer MUCH faster than the G3, noticeably faster than my 466se ibook runs it on OS9. But the same machine with OSX and Safari...I'm sold.
You might be a redneck if you don't know what's under the tarp in your yard. Scary.
