A "lookaside" cache is used in virtual-to-real addressing. It contains the results of the addressing unit's most recent coversions from virtual addresses to real addresses, and it dramatically speeds up future virtual to real address conversions by associating a specific VBN (virtual block number) with a specific RBN (real block number).
