According to specs, the 9600 holds a lot more RAM (768 vs. 384 for G3) >>

Correct me if I am wrong but doesn't the Beige G3 take the same amount of ram
as the 9600 takes: 768mb.

Those specifications reflect the state of the art of RAM at the time those machines were new. When you start to kit bash older Macs always check the web sites like MacTracker, etc. The published specs for the Beige G3 was 384 and the published spec for the 9600 was 768. The actual, with the correct memory sticks, is 768 for Beige and 1.5 for the 9600. Those 12 RAM slots are a reason a lot of 9600 are still hanging around for some applications.

The main advantage the Beige models have over the 9600 is the faster bus. Both are decent old boxes.
