Any IDE/ ATA drive up to 127Gig will be a plug in replacement for your 4g. Drive Setup in 9 or Disk Utility in X will format these drives with no problem. These are the same drives that go in pcs. Apple switched to them in the "professional" Macs (performas had been using them for a while) when they released the beiges.
If you pick one up at a computer shop, unless it is very Mac knowledgeable, don't tell them it is for a mac because it will confuse them.
