I see that CompUSA has a Seagte Barracuda 80GB EIDE 7200 rpm hd with an 8MB

my computer?
It will fit and work, however it will have two hands and a foot tied behind it's back as far as its speed is concerned. It will max out the transfer rate of the onboard ATA, which is, IIRC, about 10Mb/sec. I have a similar drive hooked to a ata 133 controller card and get transfer rates around 40Mb/sec.
As long as you have plenty of Ram and are not doing things that are tremendously disk intensive, you won't notice what you are missing as far as speed is concerned. But if you are doing things that are very disk intensive (Large databases, Huge photoshop files without enough ram, constantly launching and closing apps) you may want to consider an ATA card in the future.
But go for the drive now, nothing beets having too much disk space available.
