Do you still have the 5.0.2 files in the Applications folder? Roxio's clever update installers never delete or overwrite the existing copy. At some point, I found that trying to launch 5.2.1 would start an older version, which would then crash. When I deleted everything by the most recent versions, 5.2.1 worked again. Have tried updating to 5.2.1?
I would love to but despite the fact that I've bought Toast 3,4, and 5, they keep deleting my registered user account and you can't get access to the updates without it. I've decided they must just want me to get everything from Hotline instead of buying it in the future. Since that's what they make me do for my support files.
for alternatives to Toast for this particular image file, you might look at FireStarter FX:
I checked it out, thanks. It runs, but just sits on the dock, no menus for it, and dragging and dropping .sio images produces nothing. How is supposed to work?
