The 8 gig limit only applies to the Beige G3 machine. On the 
QuickSilver machines all the MacOSes can reside on a single partition.

If you plan on installing a variation of Linux, it will need to be 
installed on its own partition with its own file system.

This thread has become confusing. The initial question about installing 
Linux, concerned installation on a Beige G3 and has since been joined 
by questions concerning installation on newer machines. The "A 
Companion to Installing Yellow Dog Linux 3.0.1" PDF available from 
Yellow Dog covers install issues for older Macs such as the Beige G3 as 
well as newer Macs like the QuickSilver.
