If it is your intention to have OS X then it will have to be on the
first partition and that partition will need to be less than 8 gig.

Since your machine is an Old World Machine you will only be able to
start Yellow Dog Linux after the machine is booting into OS 9.

You can use the Mac OS Startup Disk Control Panel in OS 9, or the
Startup preference in OS X to determine which of the Mac OSes is going
to boot. If you have selected OS X as the startup, then you will be
unable to start up Yellow Dog Linux as it can only startup during the
OS 9 Boot process.

On the Yellow Dog Linux web site you will find a PDF called A Companion
to Installing Yellow Dog Linux, which provides excellent instructions
for a variety of Macs and OSes.

Beyond needing to have OS X as the first partition it really makes no
difference how you partition the drive. The Yellow Dog partitions can
fall in the middle or at the end of the drive without causing any
problems for either OS 9 or OS X. YDL will need at least a couple gig
of space for the standard install, more depending on how you use it.

On my G3 AIO with similar specs, Yellow Dog Linux installed easily
causing no problems and no confusion in configuring.

Good luck
