The Quicksilver is not an old world machine. It's a fully supported G4. They shipped new with OS X, albeit 10.0.4 was nothing to brag about. Panther will run on a QS happily. The Quicksilver's covered a variety of configurations across the production. The very earliest only had a 32MB video card. You want to go to at least a 64 MB card for all the Quartz Extreme features. The later one's came with a minimum 64 MB video card.
Since your machine is an Old World Machine you will only be able to start Yellow Dog Linux after the machine is booting into OS 9.
