That's weird, I thought that in PCs the master was in the middle and the slave at the end, because it was the opposite of what seemed logical for me. Though maybe back then I thought it'd be logical to have the master to be the closest to the motherboard and the slave at the far end and it was the reverse of *that*...
wouldn't setting both drives to "Cable Select" solve the issue? Isn't this determinate of where the drive belongs on the IDE chain? If both are set to CS and you can't boot, swap the drives' positions on the cable and try again, right?
I'm a long-time PC tech who's conversion to the mac world has allowed me to leave behind certain dark aspects of my previous life. I still do things the old way, which is usually forgetting the correct way and experimenting in order to find it again. :)
