My stock G5 comes with two USB on back; one on front. Not surprisingly, I need more for my externals. I seem to have enough firewire access for now. Do you fine folk recommend a PCI card (about 50-70 bucks will get me either 3 USB or 2 USB and 2 firewire), or is there a recommended PCI card with only USB for less, or should one go with a powered USB hub (and if so, powered or non-powered)? That is the question.

You don't need to add more USB busses to your Mac. Just add a hub or two to the existing buses. Each USB interface can support up to 64 devices! Ditto for the firewire ports - daisy-chain the devices.

As for powered or unpowered USB... My preference is a powered hub. If the peripherals don't need the power, they'll still work fine. But if they do, then the extra power will make sure they won't leech so much off the bus that they effect other devices. The Mac OS tells you when there's a power problem on USB by hanging/crashing. :\
