In your situation running autocad, I would say you're going to need a pc still to use it, that is quite a demand program to be emulated on mac. But who knows how good VPC 7 may be. I'm not betting
much on it but its always a possibility.

I'll second that!

Don't kid yourself that it'll be nice to work on (no, I'm not
actually having a dig at Micro$oft Windoze!!).

I once installed Windows 3.1 on SoftPC (DOS) on my Power
Book 180, and this is before SoftWindows was released!!!
