I 'd like to buy a second hand Mac for a relative, and I could use
recommendations what to look for (I'll probably get it off Ebay).

My brother, who is not computer savvy, has been getting along with an old
7100 for years now, and I know he's been struggling with the limitations of
this old machine. He doesn't complain, but I know he would really enjoy
something faster and more capable, and I'd like to surprise him with one
for his upcoming birthday. Even an early G-3 would probably seem like a
great improvement to him. He surfs the Internet using an external modem
with a dialup account and feeds photos from his digital camera into it
(very slowly) using a floppy disk adapter, improving them a bit with P
hotoshop 3, and printing the photos out on a little Epson inkjet printer
(model 700 I think). He also has an old LaserJet IIP available, although it
isn't hooked up yet.

Prices on used Macs have dropped to the point to where I'm thinking I that
for a few hundred dollars I might be able to set him up with a much faster
Mac with lots more storage for his digital photos, and the capability to
attach a little USB card reader to get them into the Mac. It would be nice
if his old serial port printers would plug into it also, or could be
adapted to it.

I'd sure like to hear any recommendations for what model of used G-Mac
would do a good job for him, and be a good value for the money.

TIA

Tom
