Sensible. Fitting an ATX PSU would also allow for a higher than original rating PSU. The only problem is what to do with the auxiliary power cabling present on some PSUs, might warrant a bit of tape over the connectors and tying back. >My main concern is the overall cost once it is up and running again. >I've seen B&W G3s for just over the 100ukp for system unit only on eBay I hadn't realised they had gone down in proice so far. I paid 400 GBP on the nail for mine this time 2 years ago (scary thought that - I forgot it was that long ago!!) and it's served me very well (and still does). >and this barebones looks likely to be about 50ukp, which feels a bit >high to me A *good* (i.e. Rev 2 400 or 450 MHz) G3 B&W will likely set you back 3 times that, depending on what size hard drive, RAM etc. it has in it. Prices on ebay UK look very variable though. Could land a bargain if you play your cards right. >but I'm no Mac expert. The intact beige ones look likely to >be a similar price. You have to consider that the Beige is on the old side of Apple's new 'Great Divide' of machines that support OS X. Old World support was pulled in Panther and, although XPostFacto can easily restore that, there are other issues with Old World machines that are harder to overcome - remember the Beoige G3 has no USB built in and uses ADB peripherals. >I'll probably get there and find that is a good price and as a result they've gone!! I'd be marginal if someone offered me a Beige G3 for 50. I bought a 9600 for that and although the G3 MT shares a similar case, the PCI slots and slightly biggre box make the 9600 a much better server! If you just want a tidy G3 desktop it'd be OK, but a good few upgrades are required to make it match a stock G3 B&W. -- Mark Benson http://homepage.mac.com/markbenson -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
