security certificate and data encryption error messages when trying to use PayPal.
Expected. Paypal (and many other sites) recently upgraded their certificates. This is causing many older browsers to choke, because they don't recognize the new authorities.
I was finally able to squeeze an email from an actual technician out of PayPal, and he said this: > The error you are encountering is a well-known anddocumented issue with Internet Explorer's inability to recognize valid> security certificates.
*smirk*
Rack it up to a) Microsoft's high quality products and their profit margin. b) VeriSign conspiracy theories.
So, PayPal recommended Netscape 7.0.2 and Mozilla 1.2.1-- which I rejected after reading how buggy it is. And I found Mozilla 1.3.1 by WaMCom (2003-7-23 issue).
Netscape 7.0.2 sucks. Rusty slow drek.
WaMCom Moz 1.3.1 rocks! It's newer than NS 7.0.2 *and* it understands the new certificates. 'Tis my current default browser.
Also check out iCab. Fast and sweet. http://www.icab.de/
Are there any OS 9.x users on this list who have experience with either of these browsers? Or with both of them?
I'm usin OS 9.2.2 on a PM 7300/180. :)
Any horror stories or warm and fuzzy stories about either would be helpful. And, any good or bad about the Opera version that is for OS 9.x.
I really hate Opera. Very unstable on my Mac.
iCab is under active development. If they ever get the CSS support finished, it will go back to being my default browser.
Get used to Moz. Then go fetch some alternate themes for it. Some are nice, some pretty grody, but all are fun. :)
If I end up with a browser that works better than Explorer 5.1.5,
*cough* *choke* *sputter* Mac users that have microcrap contamination on their HDs *mutter* *sputter* *choke* :)
