Neil Hughes writes,

<Maybe the OS 9 extensions for burning were never installed, or they have
been disabled when you installed Toast (I Toast and Toast Lite 5 did
this because of the incompatibility)?

At least I think we can rule that out as a possible cause.>

Hmmmm...my Toast IS Toast 5 Lite...so then this is why I couldn't find
any evidence of CD burning functions from OS 9.1 Finder, because I'd
already installed the Toast without thinking to look for them first?

<Hmmm...the "Preparing..." stage on this machine (B&W G3 350MHz, 1GB RAM)>

Is that YOUR G3? Mine is a G3/233 Beige DT.

<is over so quickly you almost miss it. You've got 96MB RAM - when Toast
is running, how much memory is it using and how much free memory have you
got? On this machine the OS is using about 65MB and Toast (not Lite)
another 14MB.>

Ummm, OK, now that I've rebooted on the other HD so I could check, when
Toast is running (just open, not otherwise being used -- it's too late
for that now), the stats are --

MacOS = 31.7 MB
Toast = 11.8 MB
Built In Memory = 96 MB
Virtual Memory = 302 MB
Largest Unused Block = 273 MB

Does that help?
