actually, as long as the mac the image came from isn't running at the same time, it should fall under "fair use" and be legal. more importantly, apple has never even complained about this, probably since they really don't have any financial interest in the old rom code as no one is likely to start making clones, and the old images are usually used on new macs and perhaps slightly increase the sales of new macs. in any case, you may be right technically, but i'd be amazed if it were ever a problem.
i've even considered making rom simms with IIsi etc. code for se/30 users, but even that isn't likely to be economically viable, or even recover cost. (at $10 or so for the bare simm, plus parts and labor). now if you put up a web site that sells the rom images you might run into trouble, or if you set up a site offering them for free apple might tell you to stop, but i doubt it. if you real wanted to sell the images i suspect apple would be happy to license them, though they might think they are suddenly worth a lot of $$, you never know with corporations!
