Thanks jim pardon my ignorance I have three 128mb pc266 memory chips. would they work on the mac or what?
an apology and thanks to the listmembers. I may be asking silly questions till I get my moorings in the mac world. bear with me;)

FYI Macs are at a hefty premium to pcs in india. for eg a brand new powermac G5 dual 1.8 costs Rs 147,000( nearly 3200$) as compared to the US price of 2000$. The same factor goes for used ones.
You gets what you pays for... the alternative is cheap & nasty.
Buying used macs in US is cheaper but getting them to india would mean extra 100% customs duties. aravind
Similar new prices here in New Zealand. Used is not so bad, a G3/300 B&W here can be had for ~$250US. Importing from the States is feasible only if you have a tame shipper (fortunately I do... about $27US to ship a computer here from Los Angeles). No duty, but a 12.5% tax on price paid, insurance (if any) and shipping cost... unless it comes by mail, in which case there's no tax but shipping is too high.
