I just acquired a Seagate Cheetah ST39102LC LVD/SE hard drive, with 80-to-68-&-50-pin adaptor. Looking for thoughts, experiences, etc. Especially on which bay of my beige desktop it should go into.
The top bay is reportedly the best ventilated, but with the backpane adaptor the drive becomes practically a half-height drive. I haven't tried sticking it in there yet, even if the cover will go on, will the backpane shut off needed air? What I have read on the web & here suggests that the middle bay is kinda crowded for air flow. Maybe with a fan? Ditto the "basement" slot. I downloaded a pdf from Seagate that implies Drive Setup 1.3.1 or later should be able to format it. Any other suggestions as to what I need? Would 3rd-party drivers be more advantageous? -- Yeah, I know, a SCSI controller card to take full advantage of the LVD capabilities. I know that on the built-in SCSI the drive will be seriously under-employed. But then so am I, so it's a match ;) Thanks in advance. -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
