The spreadsheet and 'database' (if you could call it that) parts of AppleWorks were useless. Nobody could seriously use them for anything other than 'playing around' (my opinion).
I disagree entirely. I've used pro quality spreadsheet and database packages at work, and have used Appleworks at home for more than a decade, and I love Appleworks (at least prior to v. 6). The spreadsheet and word processing modules are more than sufficient for most home use, and the database is a _major_ advantage for Works over Office packages. I've used the Appleworks database for home inventory and finance, and even used it to organize a swim meet, and consider the database a widely underappreciated tool for home computer users.
Spending many hundreds of dollars (more than a few, unless you're pirating) for professional word processor, spreadsheet, and database packages for home use makes no sense at all for most of us. I hope that Apple continues support for AppleWorks.
