That's a relief. Do I need the firmware upgrade? I'd rather not install OS 9 just yet. (only as a last resort), firmware upgrade requires OS 9 for installation.
You do need a PCI SCSI card to use SCSI devices on the B&W. It does not have built in SCSI, like the biege. It wasn't clear to me from your original post whether you have such a card.
You should upgrade your RAM, as 256 MB is pretty low for OS X.
