I have a small wireless network at home. I have a thinkpad running W2KPro that I used to be able to connect to via Finder and drag/drop/ share files with up until a week or two ago when it (thinkpad) took a dump and I had to wipe it out and reinstall everything (os, apps, etc.) from scratch.

Now, I'm trying to get all my networking stuff setup again so I can connect to it and transfer files. When I click on 'network' in Finder, it has an alias showing up, in the first pane, along with aliases of Library and Servers. This one alias is the name of the laptop/thinkpad before I reinstalled everything. When I click on it, I get the 'connect' button. When I click on the 'connect' button, I get a message saying "The alias 'Rads_Thinkpad' could not be opened, because the origiinal item cannon be found". It gives me three choices: Delete Alias, Fix Alias... and OK.

If I click on Delete Alias, it asks me if I'm sure, then says "The operation cannon be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for 'Rads_Thinkpad'. Even though I am the only user on this laptop, which should make me admin/root right?

If I click Fix Alias..., it opens up a File Open dialog asking me to Select New Original, like I have created a new one on the drive somewhere.

If I click OK, it does nothing, I guess because this is just a confirmation of the message about the fact that the alias can't be opened.

Back in Finder, if I choose Go/Connect to Server..., then type in afp://the.ip.address of the thinkpad (which is the way I originally did it on the old thinkpad), it says "Connection Failed. The server may not exist or it is not operational at this time. Check the server name or IP address and try again."

I have sharing turned on as well as Windows Sharing on my Pismo (this laptop). I'm running Tiger. I have Appletalk turned on (automatic config). On the thinkpad, I have TCP/IP installed and configured, windows file sharing, netbeui and appletalk all installed.

From the thinkpad, I can connect to my Pismo, which is just the opposite of how it was before I blew the thinkpad away. I could get to the thinkpad from my pismo, but not vice-versa.

Suggestions?
