You have a crud (probably dust) buildup ether in your High Voltage (HV)
cage or around the HV lead where it plugs into the tube (CRT.) If you
are trained in this field or know someone who is then you can clean it
up or possible blow it away with an air can. You should be able to find
an air can in your local electronics store (Radio Shack) or on one of
the internet stores.
You might also be having a break-down of he insulation on the HV lead
that goes from the fly-back transformer (the device that generates the
18-26KVA) that lights up the CRT. An easy to find out where the problem
is, is to open the monitor's case, turn-on the MAC and turn off your
lights. However be careful and don't get close to the source of the
high-voltage because that voltage can jump through open space and get
you. Sort of like the spark-plug lead on an automobile.
