Although this does not help my problem (which is how to install
9 from the 9 CD when the HD is not being mounted when the CD is
the startup), may I say how puzzled I am about this classic
business from your description... (please do not take any
offence)

There is OS X

There is OS 9

And there is this Classic business.

I understand that classic is a X program. It is a *program*. And
runs in X. It is a special program that enables OS 9 programs to
run within it. It is a clever and useful (but not totally happy)
program. It fires up in X when the computer sees you are trying
to open a 9 program and often gives you what you want (albeit
slowly).

Now there is a question where to put OS 9 system folder. But is
it a separate question where to put the Classic program? You
seem to talk as if Classic was 9 and in my mind these are
separate things. Or isn't it like this?

I thought you could put the lot on one HD whether or not you
want to boot into either X or 9 (it says so in a Users manual I
have on a slightly later QS than mine). As it happens, yes, I
greatly want to boot into 9 and it suits me fine to partition
and have 9 on a separate volume.

Anyway, my problem is that when I boot from the CD, the HD does
not mount and I wondering if there is some firmware issue i need
to address and how exactly to do this. Anyone know about this
please?
