You can probably find one of these on Ebay. Get either MiroMotion
DC30+ or MiroVideo DC30+ (for Pc). Both work in a Mac with Tiger
with the free software from Squared5 - DC30 Xact driver -

for
VHS and Hi8.

I still think using a DV camcorder to digitize the analog tape is
the
easiest way to deal with it and after you are done you now have a DV
camcorder to use. It doesn't have to be a great camcorder since you
are
only
using it for converting the file to digital, and older Sony DV
camcorders
can be had for $100-$150 that will work just fine.
If you are only converting the tapes and not editing them, the free
iDVD
from Apple or iMovie and Toast ($60) works perfectly for making the
DVD.
Tom
Do you find the older sony camcorders on ebay for that price Tom? I
have a Canon ZR65, that will input analog, but only with an SVideo
output, which my VCR doesn't have. I would love to buy an old Sony DV
to use with my mac.
Tom Wilkinson
Tom W,
Are you sure about that? I have a Canon ZR60, and it will output to a
VCR using the included 1/8"-to-RCA cable.
Daniel
Yes, to output via RCA is no problem. I am talking about capturing
from your vcr using your ZR60/65 as a passthrough from your VCR's RCA
out to your computer's firewire in. I believe the ZR65 will only input
video through an svideo adapter. it will definitely output through
rca. I'm being clear as mud i guess.
Tom
Nope - it inputs and outputs via RCA or S-Video. I do it all the
time.... well the input anyway - I save TV shows from my TiVo to DVD.
If only I could get TiVoTool(.com) working, I'd skip the D-A-D
conversion and just grab it right off the TiVo.
