Hi Listers, My boyfriend has found me -- yes, he looked up and gave me the number -- a Motorola XPC750HIP350CN 350 MHz processor, probably pulled from a B&W (ha ha ha, I know, why don't I just get a B&W already? ;-) It's too big to fit on my desk!), and we want to install it in my Beige G3 desktop -- whose processor is 266 MHz.
Technical memory refresher: G3 Beige Desktop 266 Rev 3. While we've both been inside this Beige for such purposes as putting in a hard drive, increasing the RAM, replacing the original CD-ROM with an internal CDRW, a floppy drive swap and an attempt at installing a USB card (the installation was successful, except the card was bad so we'll try another one next time), neither one of us has ever changed a *processor* in any Mac and we don't want to risk "ruining" the Beige. So..... Could some kind, Mac processor transplant experienced "computer surgeon" in here please either tell us what to do or provide an URL that has step-by-step instructions, particularly (my bf's concern) if and what kind of jumpers/jumper settings, or fan and heat sink additions, if any of those are necessary? (Somehow it sounds "too good to be true" if all we have to do is just remove the 266 and install the 350 in its place.)
